SONY EXPANDS HIGH-DEFINITION ENTERTAINMENT THROUGHOUT THE HOME WITH HOMESHARE HD MULTI-ROOM DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM

DENVER, Sept. 3, 2008 (CEDIA Booth #600) – Sony is making it easier for installers to integrate and consumers to use distributed music and high-definition video throughout the home with the new HomeShare™ HD multi-room entertainment solution.

Designed to expand the residential installation market by removing unnecessary costs and increasing consumer benefits, HomeShare is an entertainment and intercom system that delivers up to 16 zones of entertainment (four zones of HD video) to any room in the home via standard CAT5e wiring.

HomeShare delivers on the promise to installers of affordable plug-and-play high-definition entertainment throughout the home,” said Neal Manowitz, director of marketing for Sony Electronics’ Digital Imaging and Audio Division.  “Because of the unique architecture, HomeShare can address a wide range of installation projects from a high definition home theater with a second zone of HD video to a whole house entertainment system enabling access to all content from virtually anywhere.”

“Whether it’s watching an HD movie in the bedroom from a Blu-ray Disc™ player located in the home theater, picking a playlist from an iPod or selecting a station on Sirius/XM satellite radio, HomeShare is easy to install and easy to use.”

Connected using economical standard CAT5e wiring, HomeShare is designed to meet the demands of consumers seeking a wide range of custom installation options.  The HS-KP1 keypad features a large 4.3-inch LCD screen to display Sony’s award winning XMB  (XrossMediaBar) () inspired graphical user interface.  The system allows for four high definition video sources to be connected via CAT5e.

Using Sony’s Digital Media Port technology, a portable audio device, such as an iPod can be connected and controlled over CAT5e with full two-way content navigation delivered to the keypad.  With the local audio Wallport, each room also has access to a local source.

When the system is connected to one of Sony’s ES receivers, users can access and control their home theater with full two-way communication and content navigation anywhere in the system.  Each keypad features built-in IR pass-through, allowing users full control of sources such as Blu-ray Disc movies and high-definition content from cable/satellite set-top boxes.  Additionally, with IR-in and discreet controls, HomeShare can be integrated into a variety of third party control systems.

Also featuring intercom with a front door video camera input, the system allows users to see who’s at the front door from any room equipped with a HomeShare keypad.  The system’s intercom function also allows users to select specific rooms in which to communicate with.  And the room monitor, with a second video camera input, makes it easy to keep an ear and eye on the baby.

The HomeShare system includes:

  • HS-KP1 Keypad
  • HS-MB1 Distribution Panel
  • HS-WV1 Audio/Video Wallport
  • HS-AC1 Power Supply
  • HS-WA1 Local Audio Wallport
  • HS-WD1 Digital Media Wallport to connect a DM Port iPod dock

HomeShare will be available early next year through Sony’s network of installing dealers.  Typical installed consumer pricing is expected to be between $1,000-2,000 per room.  For further details or to find a local installing dealer, please visit the website: www.sony.com/homeshare.

SONY UNVEILS SONY UNVEILS THREE DVD-INTEGRATED HOME THEATER SYSTEMS

LAS VEGAS, Mar. 2, 2009 – Sony today introduced three powerful home theater systems designed to enhance the high-definition home theater experience.

With 1,000 watts maximum power each and integrated five disc DVD/CD changers, the DAV-HDX587WC, DAV-HDX589W and DAV-HDX285 home theater systems offer excellent performance and quality with simplified set-up.

Hassle-Free HD

Representing the most advanced DVD-integrated home theater solutions Sony has to offer are the DAV-HDX589W and DAV-HDX587WC models.

The 5.1 channel systems feature a sleek new design and an included “Easy Set-up” disc that provides step-by-step instructions on how to set-up the main unit, wire speaker cables and calibrate all system speakers.

Both come equipped with an iPod® cradle, enabling music and video to be played from a connected device through the home theater via a Digital Media Port. (Compatible DMP accessories are required and are sold separately.)  Additionally, Sony’s new DMPort Booster technology enhances the sound quality of all audio and video passing through the cradle accessory.

To complete the listening experience, each high end system utilizes Sony’s S-AIR™ technology, which allows wireless audio to be transmitted easily and effectively – up to 164 feet (signal and sound quality may vary). The DAV-HDX589W system includes S-AIR wireless rear speakers (model WAHT-SA10), and the DAV-HDX587WC features an included S-AIR multi-room listening station (model AIR-SA10). With the purchase of additional S-AIR speaker systems, audio from each home theater can be further expanded in up to 10 rooms of the home.

Further, the DAV-HDX589W and DAV-HDX587WC systems can upscale DVDs to near high-definition quality via an HDMI™ cable when connected to an HDTV set.  Both models also feature Digital Cinema Auto Calibration, Portable Audio Enhancer and Dialogue Enhancer, ensuring the optimal surround sound experience.  The two home theater systems will be available later this month for about $430.

The AIR-SA10 and WAHT-SA10 S-AIR speaker systems are currently available for about $120 and $150, respectively.

Affordable Solutions

Rounding out the line is the DAV-HDX285 system.  Similar to both the DAV-HDX589W and DAV-HDX587WC, this model features a sleek new design and comes with an “Easy Set-up” disc.  When connected to a compatible HDTV, the model also upscales DVD videos to near HD through an HDMI connection.

The 5.1 channel DAV-HDX285 system features an iPod cradle, Digital Media Port and DMPort Booster.  The movie/music mode automatically detects what is being listened to and optimizes audio accordingly.  The home theater is also S-AIR ready and can stream audio to additional rooms or add wireless rear speakers capability with the purchase of additional S-AIR speaker devices. The DAV-HDX285 system will be available later this month for about $300.

DVD On the Run

For those looking to enjoy movies on the go, Sony also introduced two portable DVD players, the DVP-FX730 and DVP-FX930.

The DVP-FX730 features a 7-inch (diag.) widescreen display, five hours of battery life and a unique textured design to minimize fingerprints.  The DVP-FX930, available in five stylish colors, upgrades to a 9-inch, high resolution LCD swivel screen (up to 180 degrees) and six hours of battery life.

The DVP-FX730 and DVP-FX930 portable DVD players will be available this month for about $130 and $190, respectively.

Sony also announced the DVP-NS710H stand-alone DVD player, which will be available this month for about $70.  It offers automatic DVD upscaling via HDMI to near HD quality when connected to a capable HDTV set.

The new home theatre systems and DVD players will be offered online through sonystyle.com, at Sony Style stores nationwide and at authorized dealers across the country.
